Madhuri dixit Madhuri dixit, an Indian actor who has been known for her roles in Hum Aapke Hing Koun (Beta Saajan) and Beta Saajan is among the most popular Indian actors. She began her career in the late 1980s, and rose to popularity with her role in Tezaab, a film where she starred alongside veteran actor Anil Kapoor. The next film she appeared in was Dil in which she shared screen space with Aamir. A middle-class family was raised in Mumbai she started learning dance from a very young age. As a young woman, she started acting but had a difficult time as a majority of her films were flops. She eventually found success and was one of the top actresses in the Indian film business. After her wedding, she took a time off from her acting career before returning. She was a key character as a lead actress in Gulaab Gang, a film focused on women's struggles in India. Dixit was awarded fifteen Filmfare Awards nominations, of which, eight were awarded. Padma Shri was awarded to Dixit, the fourth-highest civil honour in India. Also, she has earned a name as a social activist.
